EA wants to top-kill the pre-owned games market

The publisher has been one of the leading lights in the DLC code movement that sees those who buy pre-owned games locked out of certain in-game content.
In EA’s case, this will soon include online multiplayer. Those who buy a used game will have to fork out for a new code directly from the publisher to access the blocked content.
I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that EA can just go fuck themselves.

Gears 3

A whiny voiced 'j o o' (to quote Herr Cartman) interviewing an oddly pumped up looking game production type, all introduced by an attractive girl who presumably doesn't know where she is.
It can only be an IGN video.

Warning: very annoying voices, like, totally.

Looks fun. Looks quite a lot like GOW1 and GOW2.

Kinect costs as much as an xbox?

The pissed off CEO of 'ShopTO' (maybe he's pissed off because no-one has heard of his shop?) has his knickers in a twist over the prospective £130 price tag on Microsoft's souped up webcam.
The store lists the device at £124.86, with a Recommended Retail Price of £129.99 along with a launch date of 19th November. CEO Igor Cipolletta told Eurogamer that, while these figures are but a mere "placeholder," that Microsoft's rumoured U.S. pricing of $149 is correct and that ShopTo's prices simply reflect that.

Cipolletta said of such intended price points; "It's too high. We believe that with this current economy it should be around £70. For £140 you can buy a Wii." He adds that pre-orders for the device are "very low."
Sod a Wii, I certainly paid less than £140 for my 360 and that was quite some time ago. That kind of money for a fairly gimmicky looking (for now at least) add-on is pretty horrific. I guess I'll have to wait a while until I can flail my arms around wildly in front of the television, or navigate my movies like Tom Cruise.

Some good news is that the annoying little kid tech demo 'Milo' that they used for all their promo videos seemingly will be released. Phew!

The whole BP thing will be fiiiiiiine

OK so this is a bit off topic but I've got a bunch of BP shares and I'm getting tired of hearing how evil they are and (moreso) how much money I'm going to lose.

Dreamcast classics coming to XBL / PSN

“The Dreamcast is fondly remembered by a large community of dedicated fans as a console that was ahead of its time in terms of graphics, quality and online gaming” commented Haruki Satomi, VP of Digital Business at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe. “There are few things that are more requested from us than making Dreamcast classics available for download in today’s digital market place. We’re very excited to begin offering gamers our beloved Dreamcast titles again on the current console systems.”
Sonic Adventure will be available for download in Autumn 2010. Both Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be on display at SEGA’s booth (#2023) at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Damn straight ahead of it's time. 18 Wheeler looked way better than Halo 2 on the 360.

Anyway, this can only be described as good news. 18 Wheeler is one of my all time favourite games - parking challenge mode is the most exciting piece of gaming ever programmed YES IT IS YES IT IS I CAN'T HEAR YOU. So let's hope that comes out... and it doesn't cost too many points...

And for all the 18 Wheeler hating fucktards there'll be stuff like Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, maybe Daytona USA if we're all very good boys. Sega Bass Fishing? Doubtful. Did you know you can use the fishing rod controller as a sword in Soul Calibre? Can we just re-iterate... AHEAD OF IT'S TIME!

Goldeneye on Wii to have special controllers?

Now OBVIOUSLY the news that Goldeneye is coming (back) to Wii is excellent. For such a standard game, the love that Goldeneye receives from gamers is amazing. Deserved though, it really is probably the greatest multiplayer console FPS games of all time. The fact that most console FPS games are shit does detract a tiny bit of glory from that but let's not dwell on it.

As for 'special controllers', one is a nice gold Wii Classic controller which does look pretty pimp (and don't you remember being jealous of your mate with the gold N64 controller who would NEVER let anyone else use it?). The other, in true Wii money making style, is just a plastic shell shaped like a gun to slot your normal controllers into.

destructiod

Makes me long for a nice game of pistols only one shot kills. Power weapons was for losers.

Atari was started by a mormon!

Who knew?!

IGN wrote a little report of Atari's 30 year history, which might be interesting to you if you like that sort of thing.

retro.ign

My friend, who was kinda poor, had an Atari 2600 some time in the mid-late eighties. Since I didn't have any kind of console it was impressive to me. Later in life I remember being hugely jealous of a friend who got a Jaguar, until we all realised that it was shit and there were no games.

Free games, for real!

I've not really ventured into open source games much but I'm keen on the look of 'Danger from the Deep' which I've just read about on Free Gamer.

As an old fan of the Silent Hunter games (yes, we exist outside Germany) this frankly looks stunning for something that has presumably been written by a bunch of nerds in their bedrooms (no offence, chaps).

It's not really much of a game as yet, but it's impressive (to me).

Other (free) stuff to read about there too.

Alien Breed back for PC and PS3

Apparently the 360 arcade revamp was cack (that one passed me by), this PC and PS3 co-op re-revamp has aroused a bit more interest and it looks quite Alien-Breed-y.

Available now from Steam (as is a demo)

steampowered.com

Here's some 'real' Alien Breed (3) to compare it with.

Have no shame? These are for you

Despite the title of this piece, there do not seem to be 42 wearable t-shirts on display.
Definitely NOT the contra one for example.

Dead sexy. 42 great videogame shirts you can wear in public | GamesRadar

PS the page numbers don't appear in Google Chrome presumably because the website is shit.
So for fellow users of the slightly more attractive browser of the moment, page 2page 3.

It's worth taking a look because a couple of them aren't bad, like this one (made to look infinitely better than that other picture by the simple method of using a well lit attractive girl rather than an overweight hairy male in his parents' house).

Child of Rez

Child of Eden is a beautiful [re]creation for 360 and PS3, very much a spiritual child of that oddly great Dreamcast (and PS2) cult classic (in that no-one really bought it) Rez.

Rez was quite pretty. Child of Eden is gorgeous. And what's more, you'll be able to look like a tit while playing it thanks to excellent space-race driven technology like Kinect (360) or Move (PS3).

If you missed out on Rez, you can play in on 360 live arcade (is it still called that) in glorious HD, here's what that looks like:

Dreamcast was better. (It wasn't really).
Ah hell, here's that version too.

Pretty nifty Steam summer sale

Best offer of today must surely be the Monkey Island Collection @ £8.50
Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising is just about worth £3.30 too.
Also Oddworld 1 & 2 (follow me! ok!) for 2 quid.

Plenty of other deals, mostly on the big 'collection' packs.
This one seems particularly good (mainly since I quite fancy playing Metro 2033).

I suppose a link would be handy:

The end is nigh!

Ok so this one might just be a model. But this is surely just the beginning.

How To Beat Super Mario Bros 3 in 11 Minutes

My 360 can't do that.
Can't? Or won't?

100 Great Sega Genesis (...) Games!

Fuck listing them, click on the video.

And IT'S CALLED A MEGADRIVE.

Hooray a new Assassin's Creed game

Am I the only person who thought the Assassin's Creed games were kinda boring?

Oh wait, a horse!

New 360 unboxed

Microsoft made the exciting announcement of a console with BUILT IN WIFI.
Futuristic or what? It even has a built in DVD PLAYER.

It's quiet though. Which is actually a nice thing.

Sonic 4

Always good to see modern technology being pushed to it's very limits.

Sonic Mega Sale

SONIC MEGA SALE!

Sonic Mega Sale

SEGA are having a mega anniversary of some sort super deals clearout type sale. If you have one of those fancy iPhones you absolutely must click on that link above. Don't worry it doesn't make me any money, I'll stay just as poor but YOU sir will be playing STREETS OF RAGE on your PHONE.

This is what the future was invented for surely.

iPhone:
Golden Axe / Streets of Rage 59p each BARGAINS
Sonic 1 / 2 £2.39 each (bit dear that)

Only 'til the 30th of June, hurry up eh?

There's some stuff for PSP too but PSPs are shit so I'll ignore it. And you can get Sonics 1 through Knuckles for 360 but to be honest you should be playing much better games on it.

New Shitbox available now?

Poor kids rejoice, as your parents might just buy you one of these to shut you up for the summer holidays.

This may be old news, but with a slated release of 'THIS SUMMER', might we actually see one of SEGA's rare licensing-any-old-shit style faux-Wii like apparitions in stores? How could anyone resist with such classic titles as...
Kid Chameleon!
Mr Balls!
Warehouse keeper!

Ok it's got a few Sonic games too, and Ecco. But while at an estimated 40 quid it's certainly cheaper than a Wii, it's also infinitely more rubbish.

My advice for parents with rubbish jobs is to go on ebay and buy an original Megadrive or a SNES with a huge bunch of games for a heart-breakingly low price. If you can nick a few extra quid out of your Aldi cash register, maybe even a first gen XBOX.
